Book a Marine Reserve Tour

This is the most aggressive novice trip we offer. Participants should be in good physical condition and be prepared to paddle up to 11 Miles.
On this trip we explore the rugged coast of the Fitzgerald Marine Reserve, with its sea stacks, kelp beds, secluded beaches, and the legendary Mavericks surf spot. During Prohibition, these beaches were an ideal place for rum running. Under the cover of darkness and fog, illegal whiskey was unloaded from boats, dragged up the steep cliffs, and transported to San Francisco.

Our trip begins and ends in protected Pillar Point Harbor. From there we’ll paddle out and around Pillar Point as we wind our way through the sea stacks and along the cliffs toward Point Montara. Along the way, we’ll likely view seals, sea lions, and occasionally  sea otters, as well as many species of shore and sea birds. Gray, Pilot, and Humpback Whales are known to pass through the area on their migrations – if we’re lucky, we may even see them.

There is a $450 (or 2 person) minimum for this trip.

Policies & Booking Information

We look forward to hosting you on the water. Please review the following policies before booking. Payment confirms acceptance of these terms.

Weather & Safety

All programs operate rain or shine unless conditions are deemed unsafe by Half Moon Bay Kayak Co. Safety decisions are made at our sole discretion.

If HMB Kayak Co. cancels due to unsafe conditions, your group may reschedule at no charge or receive a full refund.

Once a service has been performed, it is non-refundable.

Rentals (Kayaks, Bikes, & SUPs)

Individual Rentals (1–9 guests)

Cancellations must be made at least 24 hours prior to the scheduled booking time. Bookings cancelled within 24 hours, missed reservations, and no-shows are non-refundable.

Group Rentals (10+ guests)

A deposit is required to reserve equipment for group rentals.

Deposits are refundable only if cancellation occurs outside of the required cancellation window. Because group reservations require advanced equipment allocation and staffing, cancellations, reductions in guest count, and no-shows within 7 days of the reservation are non-refundable.

Final guest count is due 7 days prior to the reservation and will serve as the guaranteed minimum for billing purposes. Increases may be accommodated based on availability but cannot be guaranteed.

Participants may be substituted if someone in your group is unable to attend.

Private Groups, Custom Trips & Corporate Events

Deposit & Payment

A 50% deposit is required to reserve your event date and equipment.

Deposits are refundable only if cancellation occurs outside of the required cancellation window. Within the cancellation window, deposits become non-refundable due to advanced staffing, equipment allocation, and operational planning.

Deposits may be applied toward a rescheduled event within the same calendar year, subject to availability.

Final payment is due 10 days prior to the event date based on your confirmed guest count, which will serve as the guaranteed minimum for billing.

Cancellations & Rescheduling

  • Groups of 1–9 guests: Changes or cancellations must be made at least 7 days prior to the event.
  • Groups of 10+ guests: Changes or cancellations must be made at least 14 days prior to the event.

Cancellations made within these windows will result in forfeiture of the deposit.

We allow a one-time rescheduling request, which must be submitted within the same cancellation timeframe (7 or 14 days, depending on group size). Approved reschedules will incur a $25 per person rescheduling fee and must be used within the same calendar year.

Guest Count

Final guest count must be confirmed within the applicable cancellation window:

  • Groups of 1–9 guests: Final guest count is due 7 days prior to the event.
  • Groups of 10+ guests: Final guest count is due 14 days prior to the event.

This confirmed number becomes the guaranteed minimum for billing.

Increases may be accommodated based on availability, but cannot be guaranteed. Reductions made after the final guest count deadline are non-refundable.

No-Shows & Same-Day Cancellations

No-shows and day-of cancellations are non-refundable and not eligible for credit.

Guide Gratuity

Gratuities for your guides are not included in your reservation total but are customary within the outdoor hospitality industry.

For guided experiences and private groups, an 18–20% gratuity of the reservation total is standard and a meaningful way to recognize your guides for delivering a safe, engaging, and memorable experience.

For your convenience, gratuity may be added to your final invoice or provided directly to your guides at the conclusion of your experience. All gratuities are distributed directly to your guides.
